Extending a Powersink’s Life Cycle

By Lisa White, contributing editor -- Foodservice Equipment and Supplies, 3/20/2008

Powersinks are basic pieces of equipment that do not require much maintenance. Still, to keep these units operating at peak performance, operators can take a few specific steps. Please note that the list below contains general maintenance information and should not be substituted for the manufacturer’s requirements and recommendations.

  •  Like standard sinks, powersinks should be kept clean and degreased. A daily wipe down with hot water will suffice.
  • Clean fan covers monthly to keep them free of lint and other debris.
  • Depending on what is being washed and the amount of food debris, sinks should be drained and refilled every four hours on average.
  • Chemical companies will provide equipment that blends water and detergent. This keeps the foam controlled inside the sink.
  • With the exception of variable-speed models, powersinks should not be used to clean delicate items, such as china and glassware. In addition, sharp utensils should be placed in a basket within the sink and not in the sink itself to protect employees from possible injury.
