Chain Operating Report for August 21

Caribou and Cheesecake Factory explore new venues and markets, Del Frisco's Restaurant Group reports operating results for the second quarter and much more in this week's chain operating report.

BJ's Restaurants, Inc. (NASDAQ:BJRI) opened a BJ's Brewhouse in Menifee, Calif.

Caribou Coffee Company, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBOU) announced plans to expand its commercial footprint in the Chicagoland by opening retail locations inside the locations of Jewel-Osco, an area grocery chain owned by Super Valu. Caribou opened its first location in Jewel-Osco's Barrington, Ill. location and plans to open two additional coffeehouses in the grocer's Hoffman Estates and Countryside stores later this year. Caribou plans to open five additional coffeehouses in within Jewel-Osco next weekend.

Casual dining giant The Cheesecake Factory opened a location in Dubai, its first international restaurant. The restaurant occupies 13,851 square feet and seats 300.

For its second fiscal quarter ending June 12, 2012, Del Frisco's Restaurant Group reported a 4 percent increase in same-store restaurant sales across all of its concepts. This includes a 7.3 percent increase at Del Frisco's and 0.3 percent at Sullivan's. The company reported a 12.3 percent increase in the second quarter of last year.

East Coast Wings & Grill announced plans to open at least 12 new locations in the San Antonio market during the next six years. The first location is scheduled to open in October. The company's plan stems from a franchise development agreement that has already been signed with brothers Nimesh and Dharmesh Patel to open six stores in the western half of San Antonio.

Sophie's Cuban Cuisine (SCCF, LLC) reached a four-unit development agreement that will bring the restaurant chain to the Washington, D.C. Metro area.

For its third fiscal quarter, Steak 'n Shake, a subsidiary of Biglari Holdings, reported a 2.9 percent increase in same-store sales. The chain attributes the growth to a 2.2 percent increase in customer traffic.
