Remembering Reps McCarthy and Sabatino

A pair of MAFSI members passed away on May 22. 

Long-time independent manufacturers' reps and MAFSI members Ed McCarthy, retired owner of the North Star Agency in Medina, Minn., and Joseph Sabatino, founder of High Sabatino Associates in Jessup, Md., passed away on May 22.

McCarthy is known for his enthusiasm, positive attitude and wonderful ability to tell a story. After retiring from the North Star Agency, he was very involved in his church and the Edina community. We will remember Ed for his enthusiasm and positive attitude.

McCarthy is survived by his wife Florence, stepson William Merholtz, stepdaughter Julie Merholtz, 4 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 nephews.

Sabatino started out at F.A. Davis Co. as a draftsman in 1954 and became a salesperson at L&N Hill Company in 1962. In 1968 he teamed with Ken High to form High Sabatino Associates, which eventually became High Sabatino Huber & Associates for roughly 40 years before reverting back to its original name.

Known as a consummate professional salesperson, Sabatino had a reputation for creating relationships and lasting friendships.

Sabatino is survived by his wife Nancy; children Christine Sabatino Miller, Joseph B. Sabatino, and Lorrie Wilson Hendricks and many grandchildren.
