Raving Brands, PrimeSource Warm Up Cold News Day
I started my day looking for a little foodservice news to help me shake off the effect of yet another frigid day here in America’s heartland. And luckily for me, sister publication Chain Leader had just the thing to get my mind racing and help me forget my still tingling extremities.
News that electronics and appliances retailer Circuit City is shutting its doors due to credit considerations and other factors comes as no surprise. The Chain Leader story “Raving Brands Sells Planet Smoothie and Shane’s Rib Shack,” however, is another story. It was interesting to read the Q&A Maya Norris had with Raving Brands President Daryl Dollinger. Equally as surprising as the sale is the revelation that Raving Brands is developing a new concept it may roll out later this year.
Another story that warmed me this morning was news about the way PrimeSource, a Dallas-based dealership, worked with some of its vendors to help renovate part of a firehouse kitchen first built in 1909. These efforts were part of the seventh annual Freedom Day 2008 hosted by Entrepreneurs Foundation of North Texas (EFNT).
In assessing the kitchen at Dallas fire station No. 11, it became obvious that a new range and sink were needed. So PrimeSource worked with its vendor partners to make this happen, also coordinating the delivery and installation of the equipment. As a result, the firefighters and paramedics at Dallas Fire and Rescue can turn up the heat on their pallets during meal time.
“The new stove is great and we want you to know that its maiden voyage turned out some mean chicken enchiladas,” Captain Rett Blankenship of Dallas Fire and Rescue said. “Our chief came over and kicked the tires on it this afternoon and now we are the envy of the district.”
Of course, PrimeSource did not go it alone with this project, acknowledging the partners who assisted with this project. Jeff Swindle and Tug Toler at E-Source Inc. handled the complexities of ordering the right stove, which was donated by Garland/U.S. Range. Pam Meredith at Ettinger-Rosini & Associates arranged for the donation of the new sink faucets. Jerry Pritchett at Cooking Equipment Specialists assembled a team to deliver and install the new stove and remove the old one.

Congratulations to all parties involved.
