Tabletops Highlight Foodservice' Fashion Sense
July 9, 2008
This October, Foodservice Equipment & Supplies will showcase the fashion sense of foodservice. No, we’re not going to solicit photos of the best-dressed operators, dealers, consultants or service agents. But what we show will represent some of the best-dressed tabletops in the foodservice industry as selected by our panel of independent judges.
These facilities we highlight will be the winners of our 2008 Tabletop Performance Awards. The operators of these facilities will have worked with their partners in the distribution channel to create a tabletop that sets the tone for diners upon their sitting down to enjoy a carefully and expertly crafted meal.
Being somewhat challenged when it comes to my own personal fashion sense, this competition really intrigues and never ceases to impress me. I like to see the creativity used to solve challenges and make a sharp-looking tabletop that really acts as an extension of an operation’s menu. It’s a great opportunity for us to focus on how the final product arrives in the customer’s capable hands.
I know so many of you did not wake up this morning wondering how to fill your day. Still, if you operate in the tabletop arena, I would strongly encourage you to enter this competition.
For those of you that are contemplating entering, I have anticipated some of the questions you might ask if we were meeting face-to-face, including:
Can I still enter?
Yes! You still have time to enter. If you have installed a new tabletop any time since Jan. 1, 2006, then you are eligible to participate in this competition. Just submit your information to us by Friday, July 11.
What does the competition cover?
FE&S’ annual Tabletop Performance Awards recognize excellence in permanentware tabletop design in five distinct operator-based categories, which include:
• On-Site Foodservice
• Independent Restaurant with per-person check average above $30
• Independent Restaurant with per-person check average less than $30
• Catering/Banquet Facility
• Club/Resort
How do you decide the winners?
Our panel of industry tabletop experts selects the winners based on how they:
• Support the operation's concept or theme or change in menu
• Establish a signature identity for the operation
• Refresh or update the table appearance in an existing facility
• Facilitate a change in concept
• Function in daily use
What’s won in the past?
Good question. Check out this article to get a glimpse of last year’s winners.
Great stuff … how do I enter?
