Tabletop Performance Awards Unveiled and Burger King Plans Whopper Bar
October 7, 2008
Often the most overlooked aspect of a foodservice operation, the tabletop is the one part of the restaurant that gets the most customer interaction. Indeed, customers don’t really interact with a range or warewasher but they do come into contact with cutlery, glassware, dinnerware and the other items that comprise a restaurant’s tabletop. And when done correctly, these tabletops can be quite inspirational.
With that in mind, we at FE&S are proud to present the winners of our annual Tabletop Performance Awards. This year’s winners were chosen from a record number of entries and the creativity among the installations we reviewed was as high as I can recall in my time with the magazine.
These are certainly some thought-provoking tabletops and I hope you have a chance to look over this year’s slate of winners, which you can access by clicking here.
Thanks to everyone who entered and to our judges. And congrats to the winners.
Burger King’s Whopper Bar Nears Reality
Burger King is planning to build at least six Whopper Bars, with the first one scheduled to open in February in Orlando. During a time when most of the news surrounding chains centers on lower same-store sales and scaled-back expansion plans, I have no doubt that this comes as good news to those companies that sell restaurant equipment to Burger King.
I am further intrigued by the chain’s possibly selling beer from these Whopper Bars. This is a development worth monitoring. To read the Wall Street Journal article on Whopper Bars, click here.
