Chain Restaurants Continue with Expansion Efforts

Despite the challenging business environment, a number of chain restaurant operators continue to forge ahead with expansion plans. Here are updates on Baja Fresh, BJ’s Restaurants, Dunkin’ Donuts, Naples Tomato, Papa Bello and Red Robin Gourmet Burgers.
Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, the quick-casual fresh Mexican chain, opened franchise a location in Orlando. This is the sixth Baja Fresh restaurant in Florida, the remainder being located in the Southern part of the state. Cypress, Calif.-based Baja Fresh operates or franchises 283 restaurants in 28 states
BJ's Restaurants, Inc. opened a restaurant in Culver City, Calif. The company owns and operates 88 casual dining restaurants under the BJ's Restaurant & Brewery, BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse or BJ's Pizza & Grill brand names.
As part of its greater China expansion strategy, Dunkin' Donuts opened its first two shops in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
Naples Tomato, a Naples, Fla.-based restaurant, announced plans to expand through franchising. The restaurant's initial expansion efforts will target the Eastern United States. The typical Naples Tomato franchise store will occupy approximately 7,000 square feet and serve about 220 guests. The stores will feature an open-concept kitchen, upscale bistro-style décor and a private pasta-kitchen dining alcove.
Papa Bello Enterprises, Inc. announced the company signed a letter of intent to acquire the Kebab Cafe; a Southern Calif.-based restaurant concept specializing in Middle Eastern style cuisine.
Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. announced its intent to open a new restaurant in Goodyear, Ariz. The 5,896-square-foot Goodyear Red Robin restaurant will seat 198 guests.
