Chain Expansion Report

CKE announced expansion plans, while other chains announced closures this week.
- CKE Restaurants opened a Hardee’s in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the chains 300th international unit, this one operated by Kuwait Food Co.
- Famous Dave’s announced plans to close one of its 48 company-owned restaurants in Chicago this month due to a bankruptcy filing by the landlord of that property. In addition, the company announced impairments with another location in Chicago and a unit in Minneapolis.
- Kona Grill closed a restaurant in Naples, Fla., due to challenges by volume, seasonality and demographics since its opening in November 2006.
- McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants Inc. opened its sixth Chicago-area restaurant in Rosemont, Ill. The chain now operates 89 restaurants, including 83 in the United States and six units in Canada under The Boathouse brand.
- Red Robin Gourmet Burgers opened a restaurant in Bel Air, Md.
