DOC Releases Retail, Foodservice Figures

The U.S. Department of Commerce has released its advanced monthly figures for retail and foodservice sales for the month of May.

Combined retail and foodservice sales for the month totaled an adjusted $385.4 billion, an increase of 1 percent vs. the prior month. Sales at foodservice establishments and drinking places alone lagged that growth slightly, reaching $38.4 billion, a 0.8-percent increase month over month.

Sales at food and beverage stores posted 0.4-percent growth, totaling approximately $49.2 billion.
