The National Restaurant Association announced a partnership with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an initiative managed by CIES – The Food Business Forum, to strengthen food safety systems around the world, and increase consumer confidence. The partnership brings together the restaurant industry and food retailers, who will maintain a benchmarking process for food safety management schemes and improve cost efficiency throughout the food supply chain through the common acceptance of GFSI-recognized standards.
Roland Vaxelaire, director of risk, responsibility and quality for the Carrefour Group, serves as chairman of GFSI, which currently has an alignment with BRC, Dutch HACCP, IFS, and SQF as well as retailers Carrefour, Delhaize, Metro, Migros, Royal Ahold, Tesco and Wal-Mart.
