The Department of Commerce has released its figures for advanced monthly sales for retail and foodservice for the month of August. Combined sales declined by 0.3 percent vs. July to $381.2 billion.
Despite the overall decline, sales at foodservice establishments and drinking places actually increased in August, growing by 0.2 percent to an adjusted $38.6 billion.
Sales at food and beverage stores increased even more, growing by 0.7 percent to $49.9 billion during the month.
