Restaurant Chain Acquisition and Expansion Efforts Continue

Restaurant chain operators Buffalo Wings & Rings, Burger King, California Pizza Kitchen, Famous Dave’s and Papa Bello all followed through with acquisition and expansion efforts during the past week.

BJ's Restaurants, Inc. opened its seventh restaurant in Concord, Calif. The company expects to open three more restaurants by the end of November.

Buffalo Wings & Rings continued its expansion efforts with the opening of a family-owned location in a food court in the chain's hometown of Cincinnati.

Burger King Corp. announced the opening of its first Whopper Bar restaurant in the company’s Asia-Pacific region. The opening is part of Burger King Corp.’s plan to introduce its innovative Whopper Bar concept on a global scale. In Spring 2009, Burger King opened its first Whopper Bar at Universal CityWalk in Orlando. The company opened its first European Whopper Bar in June in Munich, Germany.

California Pizza Kitchen, Inc. announced the opening of its seventh location in Mexico. The new restaurant, another opened by CPK franchise partner Grupo Calpik, S.A.P.I. de C.V., is the first to open in Cancun, Quintana Roo. CPK operates 254 restaurants, including 208 company-owned locations.

Famous Dave’s of America, Inc. opened three restaurants in October: Lake Delton, Wis.; Topeka, Kans.; and Fort Collins, Colo. The company operates 179 locations in 37 states.

Papa Bello Enterprises announced the company has signed a letter of intent to acquire Pastore's of Rosedale, Inc., a Baltimore-based restaurant, deli, and bakery chain. Established in 1999, Pastore's now has two locations in the greater Baltimore area and expects to post revenues of approximately $1.4 million in fiscal year 2009, according to a Papa Bello’s release.
