Durable Goods Orders Fall

New orders for manufactured durable goods fell by 4.5 percent in August vs. the previous month, reaching $208.5 billion. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Commerce, shipments of these goods also fell, declining by 3.5 percent to $210.1 billion.
New orders for Primary metals posted a steep decline in August, falling by 9.3 percent to $22.1 billion. The shipment value of these orders fell a more modest 1.9 percent to approximately $23.5 billion.
Fabricated metal product new orders fell by 0.6 percent during the month to $28.2 billion, while shipments of these products declined by 1.5 percent to $28.2 billion.
