Chain Expansion Report

Despite news reports of a struggling economy, many restaurant chains announce expansion plans this week.
• Bennigan’s Franchising Co. opened a Bennigan’s Grill & Tavern in McAllen, Texas, operated by franchisee MVN Ventures, LLC.
• BJ’s Restaurants opened a location in Tacoma, Wash., the chain’s 80th location systemwide.
• Chick-fil-A opened a restaurant in Winchester, Va.
• Dunkin’ Donuts opened a location in South Bend, Ind., and Evansville, Ind., for franchise sales with plans to build 25 and 15 new stores, respectively, in those areas. Dunkin’ Donuts also opened in Peoria and Bloomington, Ill., for franchise sales, and the chain opened its first LEED-certified restaurant in St. Petersburg, Fla., paving the way for future prototypes across the United States.
• Famous Dave’s opened a restaurant in Greenwood, Ind., its 173rd location systemwide.
• Landry’s Restaurants opened a T-REX Café at Downtown Disney in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
• Manhattan Bagel signed a development agreement with Steven Raibick, Wessam Gabr and Asmaa Nowera Elshamma to open its first location for the Denville/Morris Plains, N.J., area.
• McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants opened a restaurant in Scottsdale, Ariz. The company now operates 90 restaurants, including 84 in the United States and six in Canada.
• Morton’s Restaurant Group opened a steakhouse in Mexico City, Mexico, its first for that country.
• Smashburger announced plans to open its sixth Denver location. The company plans to grow to 500 locations in 30 markets by the end of the year.
• Uno Chicago Grill’s largest franchisee, Tom and Angella Block of the Block Group, opened a restaurant in Pennsylvania, their eighth location in that state.
• Western Sizzlin Franchise Corp. announced the opening of New Wood Grill Buffet Restaurant in Hesperia, Calif., a new concept for the company.
• Wingstop announced plans to open 75 restaurants in the Northeast during the next five years.
